Gasthof zum Sollinger Wald
Explore Gasthaus Koch, also known as Gasthof zum Sollinger Wald. This abandoned place in Amelith in Germany stands as a silent witness to the passage of time. Built in 1890, this once-vibrant establishment closed its doors in the late 1990s.
Gasthaus Koch spans 800 m² and consists of two floors and a renovated attic. The building boasts numerous rooms including guest rooms, a restaurant, a clubroom, and two individual apartments.
The guesthouse and restaurant were built in 1890, situated along a busy trade route and at the center of a popular vacation destination. Consequently, they attracted a consistent flow of customers all year round.
Mold-covered walls
The restaurant and clubroom were bustling with activity in the past, but now they sit in silence and emptiness. As you walk, the wooden floors groan beneath your weight, and the walls show signs of peeling paint. Despite the decay, the beauty of the place still shines through. The large windows flood the space with light, casting an eerie yet captivating ambiance. The dining hall, in particular, stands out with its moss and mold-covered walls, giving it a green, almost mystical appearance. Nature’s slow reclaiming of the space only adds to its haunting charm.
The upstairs rooms were originally designated for overnight guests. Although the beds remain, they have aged and collected dust over time. Additionally, there are separate apartments that were probably used by staff or long-term guests. These apartments feature small kitchens and living areas, providing a fascinating glimpse into the daily lives of those who resided here in the past.
Downturn
By the late 1990s, the business took a downturn, leading the owners to shut down the business. Despite being listed on the market, there was no interest from potential buyers.
Gasthaus Koch is a captivating establishment with a rich history and distinctive architecture that sets it apart as a truly unique destination. Stepping inside feels like entering a time capsule where the past comes alive. I visited the gasthaus in 2021.
