THE ABANDONED LABORATORY IN BELGIUM
This is the abandoned ‘Pathologische Anatomie & Dissectie’ at the Gent University Hospital.
This huge building housed the departments Pathology and Dissection. Pathology is the part of medicine whose mission it is to make diagnoses and to confirm on the basis of cellular material and tissue fragments. This is done mainly with the aid of the microscope. This eight floor building was full with laboratories, some classrooms for students and a big dissecting room with different slabs.
The department moved in 2015 to a brand new building, after that this one was left. It was cleaned in the following months and the building was demolished in 2019. I visited the labs in 2016.
